About this piece

Beautiful gouache of an interior completely furnished in the Art Deco style. Everything truly adheres to the standards of the period, and it was crafted during that time. This could be a design by a decorator or architect, perhaps for Le Salon des Artistes Décorateurs (SAD).
Alternatively, the proud owner might have captured their beloved salon. It could have been intended as a sitting area for an upscale private club or boutique hotel. It is luxurious, with attention to every detail, the stylish furniture with rounded backrests, built-in benches along the wall, very modern. Take a look at the wallpaper or the beautiful colour blocks used for the space, extending into the hallway. The blocks are complemented by the ceiling lines and reappear in the gorgeous carpet.

Contrasting this, notice the elegant round black table in the center of the room, with tapered legs and a very modern round glass dish on top. The round shape returns in the curved wall by the pink armchair. One more thing not to be overlooked, the fantastic light pouring in from the skylight. It beautifully illuminates the carpet.

There is so much to see; it is truly a masterpiece, this beautiful design. It also has an intimate quality, as if someone stepped into the kitchen to grab a drink, with the door to the hallway still open. This suddenly makes it very homely and warm.

This gouache is painted on thick white cardboard. To better protect the painting, a passe-partout has been added along with museum glass (Artglass) to shield it from UV light. Placing a passe-partout in front prevents the paint from touching the glass.

The work is not signed and was painted around 1925-1930.

The piece comes from a magnificent and extensive private collection in Paris.

Condition

Great, especially now that it has been reframed. The colours are sublime and in very good condition.
The cardboard is also not wrinkled or anything.
However, if you look closely, you can see a few old moist stains, likely caused by framing the paint directly against the glass. It is much better preserved now.
