Large pastel depicting a woman in profile holding a flower. The style is characteristic of the Symbolist and Art Nouveau periods.

Yvonne Meley was a French artist (Paris, 1888 – Gonesse, 1982) who studied under the French Impressionist Joseph Delatte. Her first exhibition was in 1907 at the Salon d’Union des Femmes Peintres et Sculpteurs. From 1914 onward, she exhibited annually at the Salon des Artistes. Meley also participated in and won a prize at the special exhibition and competition held in honor of the 1924 Olympic Games in Paris.

The pastel is signed and dated in the upper left: “Y. Meley, 1912.”


Condition

The pastel has been fully treated and conserved by a paper restorer. It has been reframed with acid-free paper, set at a distance from the glass, and framed using museum glass.
