Very beautiful photo frame for it's design and decoration, very typical for the period.
The frame has a wooden base on which a metal (probably tin) hammered layer is set with a leaf motif, the layer is secured with nails.
The blackened geometric patterns and the 3 large cabuchon cut stones gives the frame extra appearance.
The colour of the stones, the greenish blue was very fashionable and popular.
Inside the frame is the original silk lining.
This way of working shows the manual work and was inspired by the Arts and Crafts movement in England. A group of artists that opposed the industrialisation and harked back to the older methods of crafts and created and designed the most beautiful objects. This frame and displaying the nails, is a nice example.
