Beautiful Torso of Greetje. She exudes strength, self-confidence, and a certain joy. This is effectively conveyed through the cubist style of Margriet Barends' work.
The torso also has an impressive size, standing 37 cm tall and 43 cm including the stone base. It is made of lost-wax cast bronze (cire perdue). The sculpture is signed on the back of the right leg with Margriet Barends' monogram, ‘MB’ in a circle, and is numbered 1/12.
Margriet Barends (born in 1958) was educated in Utrecht at the School for Graphic Arts and at the Artibus Academy, where she studied under sculptor Jan van Luijn.
She primarily creates figurative sculptures in bronze or corten steel, often focusing on human and animal subjects. She also paints with oil and acrylics. Margriet Barends is a member of the Kunstliefde Society and the Artists’ Association “De Groninger Kroon.” Her works have been exhibited at various sculpture gardens, at Palace Het Loo, and at Museum De Buitenplaats.
This bronze was part of a private collection and was acquired in 2005 at Galerie Aelbrecht, Rotterdam.
