A rare bronze sculpture made by Demetre Chiparus, named "Alexandrian dancer", edited by Etling Paris, made around 1925.
Demetre Chiparus made his most successful pieces between 1914-1933. He made several dancers in bronze and chryséléphantine (combination of bronze and ivory). Chiparus was inspired by the famous "Ballet Russe" at that time, very loved and famous in France. Especially their costumes were special and a great inspiration for many artists. This Alexandrian dancer is also dressed with the special headpiece and a dancing costume made of beans, based on the outfits of the Ballet Russe.
The bronze has a polychrome patina in brown, silvergrey and gold with blue enamelled details (the beans).
The quality and the refined details of this sculpture are so good and so well made.
