About this piece

Silvered bronze squirrel placed on a black marble original base. The artist made this little sculpture in the Modernism style. Probably it was used as a paperweight.

The sculpture is signed on the tail with 'Viam'.

------

About George Viam is not much information known. It could be very well being a pseudonym, he used instead of his own name. At that time it wasn't unusual at all, especially when they were under contract with editors of art agents, they were not allowed to use their own name. Sometimes they prefer to make a distinction between their free work as a sculptor and the more commercial work.

We know George Viam made also bronze decorative art pieces, like very well made gilded bronze lamps in a classical style, made around 1880-1900.

Condition

Very good, just the expected traces of use and age on the silver patina.
