'Diane chasseresse', a patinated and cold painted bronze by Marcel-André Bouraine, and edited by Etling Paris, about 1925. It's
modelled and cast as the naked Diana with bow, flanked by two fawns, on an angled and stepped bronze base.
This bronze is the more rare small version (31 cm.) and edited by Edmond Etling Paris.
The bronze is patinated in silver, brown and black and is signed by Bouraine and Etling Paris on the bronze base. Underneath the bronze is a painted black number '1968', (an auction number?) It's also stamped in relief with 'L.L'.
Marcel-Andre Bouraine (1886-1948) was born in Pontoise (France), he studied under Jean-Alexandre-Joseph Falguiere (1881-1900).
After World War I, he exhibited in several Salons, like 'Salon des Tuileries' (1922) and the 'Salon d'Automne' (1923).
He executed small-scale sculptures for several French firms, including Susse Freres, Etling Paris, Le Verrier, and Arthur Goldscheider, often exhibiting with the latter's La Stele and L'Evolution groups.
In 1928 Gabriell Argy-Rousseau (1885-1953) commissioned a number of figurines from Bouraine, mostly female nudes, but also a fountain and an illuminated group, all of which were executed in coloured, translucent pate de verre.
He executed two major commissions for the 1937 Paris International Exhibition
