Silver-plated cake stand on three legs by Maison Christofle “Joubarbe”.
This exquisite silver-plated cake stand is named after the "Joubarbe," a type of succulent plant known in the Netherlands as "Sempervivum" or "always alive," characterized by its many leaves. In 1901, Maison Christofle showcased this highly exclusive cake stand at the Paris Salon, and a photograph of it from that time still exists. Today, this is a sought-after and rare model.
The stand is signed under one of the legs with the renowned scales hallmark of Christofle, along with the number "22," indicating that 22 grams of silver were used, a longer number "1556396," and the name Christofle. It is likely that the stand itself was crafted from an alloy of tin and copper and subsequently silver-plated.
