About this piece

Cute little bronze of 2 sparrows, which is most likely intended as a paperweight. The bronze is patinated with a green patina that is very characteristic of the Art Deco period. It was therefore made in the 1920s.

The French designer and sculptor Georges-Henri Laurent (1880-1940) designed for several editors during that period, he worked for Robj, Süsse Frères and Dunhill.
Laurent was an animalier, the animals were the main theme in his work and he portrayed them in a slightly stylized style. Laurent's bronze animals were always portrayed in a way that brought out their nature, as these sparrows are endearing, for example he could make a predator come out more aggressive.

The sparrows are signed with "Laurent" and "Bronze".
