About this piece

Beautiful dancer and so typical of the Art Deco period, with her typical haircut, her characteristic move, the stylized way in which Albert David has depicted this dancer in bronze, everything breathes the 1920s, the new modern era after WWI.

The dark patina with a hint of green is also beautiful. The bronze is cast cire perdue (lost wax technique).

She stands on a high black marble base with green veins, 15 cm h. In total the sculpture is 41 cm h.
The signature, 'Albert David', is chiseled into the marble base, with gold letters.

Biography:
Albert Eugène Marie David (Liernais, 1896 - Nice, 1970) was a ceramist and sculptor. He was educated at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He was a student of Jean Boucher.

He exhibited at the various Paris Salons, such as the Salon des artistes Français, the Salon d'Automne and the Salon des artistes décorateurs.

He also worked as a ceramist for the Primavera studio for major department stores such as Galeries Lafayette and for Cristallerie de Baccarat. He designed a whole series of animals in crackle earthenware for Sainte-Radegonde.

He was best known for his bronze reliefs and sculptures. Besides he designed several monuments and even medals. A versatile artist.
A well-known work of his is also the sculpture of an athlete making the athletic salute, which he made for a special exhibition for the 1924 Summer Olympics in Paris.

His work was very modern and often very stylized, almost cubism. This dancer is a fine example of his work in bronze.

In 1938 he received the award 'Officier de la légion d'Honneur'.
